Sneak peek: Preview Neil Young's new album May 19

  • Print

Neil Young’s new album, A Letter Home, hits the store shelves on May 27, but visitors to the Free Press can hear a special preview of the recording on May 19.

A Letter Home is an album of cover songs that Young recorded at Jack White’s 1947 Voice-O-Graph recording booth at White’s Third Man Studios in Nashville, Tenn.

The vintage Voice-O-Graph studio is not much larger than a telephone booth, and Young, a former Winnipegger, was quoted as saying that recording songs in it was one of his lowest-tech experiences.

Among the songs he recorded are Bob Dylan’s Girl From the North Country, Willie Nelson classic On the Road Again, My Hometown by Bruce Springsteen and The Needle of Death by Bert Jansch.

The sneak preview of the album will appear on this page on May 19 and be available until the album is released on May 27.
