Workshop retreat goes live at Ozzy's

  • Print

From July 20 through 23, a group of established and emerging local songwriters representing diverse musical backgrounds and genres holed up at a cabin in the Whiteshell as part of Manitoba Music’s Manitoba SongCamp, a three-day co-writing retreat.

And now, they’re ready to share the magic they made.

Tomorrow, Ozzy’s will be hosting Manitoba Music Night, a special edition of New Music Wednesdays — a monthly event that highlights new local music on the first Wednesday of every month. All nine of the participating 2014 SongCamp songwriters — Cassidy Mann, Charlotte Kosc, Flo, Grant Davidson (Slow Leaves), Jenna Priestner (Mobina Galore), Kevin Roy, Maxine Peters, Matt Worobec (Lost Weekend) and Sonia Eidse — will perform their co-written compositions as well as their own material in a songwriter-in-the-round format.

Previous SongCamp retreats have resulted in some fruitful musical partnerships. We Can Only Listen, Ruth Moody’s collaboration with Royal Canoe’s Matt Peters and producer Derek Norton, was included on Moody’s Juno-nominated album, The Garden. Western Canadian Music Award-winning producer Arun Chaturvedi and artists Phil Deschambault and Heather Longstaffe have received multiple TV and film placements for SongCamp compositions.

Admission for Manitoba Music Night is $3. Music begins at 8:30 p.m.
