Folk fest prices up; passes on sale Tuesday
THE Winnipeg Folk Festival isn't until July, but early bird tickets are going on sale Tuesday.
Adult five-day passes for the July 4-8 festival at Birds Hill Park are $206, including all taxes and service charges, up from $189 last year. Youth and senior passes are $122.
Festival campers will take the biggest hits to their wallets this year with a combined festival ticket/camping pass costing $281, up from $229 last year. Youths and seniors will pay $197 for the passes.
Despite the huge bump to $75 per person to camp in 2012 (it was $25 in 2008 and $40 last year), it probably won't deter festival goers, since living in the small tent city created in the green space across from the music site is one of the highlights of the event. Camping passes were sold out by April 11 last year.
The increasing number of people bunking down in RVs has prompted the festival to issue a separate $10 RV pass valid for trailers, campers and camping vans. A finite number of tickets will be issued since the area north of the festival campground cannot be expanded. One tent per vehicle is also permitted in the area.
People who prefer things a bit mellower at night can save a few bucks: festival/camping passes for the quiet campground are $241 for adults and $157 for seniors and youths. In 2011 those same adult passes were $219.
Adult day tickets to the music site are $51 and $70, while youth and seniors tickets are $39 and $52.
All tickets and passes will be available Tuesday from Ticketmaster, or in person at the Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store.
The music lineup will be announced in March.
