SWEET Alibi is set to release some sweet new tunes.
The local folk trio will unveil its sophomore album, We've Got To, on Nov. 20 at the West End Cultural Centre. Tickets are $20 at the door or $15 in advance at the WECC, Ticketmaster, Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store and Music Trader.
We've Got To is the latest local disc to be helmed by Imaginary Cities' Rusty Matyas, an emerging producer whose recent credits include Federal Lights' We Were Found in the Fog and Les Jupes Negative Space EP.
"We knew we needed to find a producer who can not only capture the ongoing evolution of the Sweet Alibi sound from folk finesse to progressing pop presence, but enhance it effortlessly," the band says in a release. The obvious choice was Rusty.
The band was also keen to "share stories genuinely in song that have shaped Sweet Alibi personally since its first album." We've Got To addresses everything from confronting mortality (I'll Wait) to achieving sobriety (Get it Right).
Sweet Alibi's self-titled debut netted the trio a 2012 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination.
