IN 2011, Juno-winning singer/songwriter Meaghan Smith released a sparkly holiday album called It Snowed and put on a delightful holiday concert at the West End Cultural Centre.
It was so delightful that it's become an annual holiday tradition around these parts. The silver-voiced Smith will return to the WECC on Dec. 7. Tickets are $20 at the door or $15 in advance through Ticketmaster, Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store, Music Trader and The West End Cultural Centre. Slow Leaves, a solo project of Winnipeg songwriter Grant Davidson, is also on the bill.
Smith's enthusiasm for the season is enough to get any Grinch in the spirit.
"I really love this time of year," she says in a press release. "I love the cold and the snow. I know that's strange but I do. I love inviting people in from the freezing outdoors and warming them up with my songs. I love that there are traditions reserved especially for this time of year and it's an honour to share some of my favourite musical traditions with my audience. I also really love that my holiday show might be becoming a holiday tradition for some people."
