New Music Festival drew more than 6,500
MORE than 6,500 people attended the six concerts and the Pop Nuit show during the recent Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's New Music Festival, organizers said in a release.
The festival, which ran from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2 with Steve Reich as its distinguished guest composer and percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie as distinguished guest artist, brought in more than $83,000 in revenue, one of the highest totals in recent years, the WSO release said.
Glennie's performance of The Shaman, by WSO composer-in-residence Vincent Ho, will be part of the WSO's performance at the Spring For Music Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York in May 2014. The orchestra's Carnegie program will also include Derek Charke's 13 Inuit Throat Song Games, featuring throat singer Tanya Tagaq, as well as R. Murray Schafer's Symphony No. 1.
