Corb Lund

Losinö Lately Gambler (New West/Universal)

NOT only does Alberta Corb Lund return with a new album, he's got a new American record label. But unlike many Canadians seeking to make a bigger dent in the U.S. market, Lund doesn't forget where he comes from; in fact, he offers as many references to his home and native land as he ever has.

Lund writes about what he knows: ridin' steers, playin' cards, veterinarians, the effect of the oil boom on Alberta's farmers and ranchers and, of course, lost love (Alberta Says Hello is one of his most personal and sincere songs ever). Even though the subject matter is often serious, Lund still has a sense of humour, as witnessed on the witty Talkin' Veterinarian Blues. Stylistically Lund offers a tip of the 10 gallon hat to Marty Robbins, Carl Perkins, Waylon Jennings and Stompin' Tom.

On Losinö Lately Gambler, Lund is truly back in the saddle. Forget Americana -- Canadiana rules. 'Ö'Ö'Ö'Ö
