Local musicians extend helping hand to Haiti
JOHN K. Samson of the Weakerthans, Ruth Moody and Nicky Mehta of the Wailin' Jennys and Daniel Roa will play the West End Cultural Centre Feb. 11 to raise money for Zanmi Lasante/Partners in Health, Haiti's largest non-governmental health-care agency, which provides services regardless of patients' ability to pay.
Tickets are $15 at Ticketmaster, Mondragon and the WECC. Further donations are being collected at the show with tax receipts issued for donations over $10.

When it comes to soulful soft rock, it doesn't get much softer than Michael Bolton, so it's a safe bet earplugs won't be required when the multiple Grammy winner performs at Club Regent on April 5.
The adult-contemporary star is touring in support of his new album, One World One Love. Tickets for the show go on sale Feb. 11 for $75 and $90 at Ticketmaster.
For even more soul, The Stars of the Commitments will appear at McPhillips Street Station March 17. The band features two members from the 1991 Alan Parker film The Commitments: drummer Dick Massey and bassist Kenneth McCluskey. Tickets go on sale Feb. 4 for $35 and $40 at Ticketmaster.
The casinos have also booked country group Sawyer Brown March 18 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 4, $45 and $55); country artists Gord Bamford, Patricia Conroy and Duane Steele April 8 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 11, $30); vocal group Little Anthony & the Imperials April 12 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 12, $35 and $45); and comedian Brett Butt for two shows April 18 at McPhillips Street (tickets on sale Feb. 12, $35 and $45).
