WECC celebrates 25th with two-night showcase
THE West End Cultural Centre will celebrate its 25 years in business with a two-night showcase of local talent.
On Oct. 19 local political thrash-punk group Propagandhi will headline a show in support of its new album, Failed States, and to represent the long list of punk and metal bands that have performed at the WECC over the years. Local reunited hardcore band Head Hits Concrete and avant-garage band This Hisses will open the show. Tickets go on sale Monday for $23.50 at Ticketmaster and the West End.
The following night, Oct. 20, the stage will be filled with more than 20 local artists -- including Nicky Mehta, Keri Latimer, Scott Nolan, Sam Baardman, Andrina Turenne, Greg Macpherson, Cara Luft and Lloyd Peterson -- for the official 25th Anniversary Concert.
The artists will collaborate on a selection of songs "that honour the breadth and diversity of Manitoba songwriters and the home that the WECC has provided for them over the past 25 years," according to a statement.
Tickets to the show go on sale Monday for $28.50 at Ticketmaster and the West End.
The first show to ever take place in the former church at the corner of Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street was Oct. 23, 1987, when Vancouver folk group Spirit of the West performed.
