Winnipeg violinist among six honoured by conservatory

A Winnipeg violinist is among six Canadian musicians to be honoured for their contribution to classical music and arts education around the world.

Martin Beaver, first violin with the esteemed Tokyo String Quartet since 2002, has been named an honorary fellow of the Royal Conservatory.

Beaver, who has taught at North America's top music schools, including Yale, will receive his honorary fellowship at a gold medals ceremony in Calgary on April 14.

The Winnipegger joins an esteemed group of award-winning musicians. Trumpet virtuoso and former Tonight Show musical director Doc Severinsen also received the fellowship.
