Woah, New Year's Eve!

TORONTO -- Victoria-raised pop star Nelly Furtado says she loves playing gigs on New Year's Eve -- even if it means having to freeze in icy climes.

That was the case this year when she took the outdoor stage at Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Furtado joked being onstage during the countdown gives her a great vantage point as couples kiss at midnight.

She also noted New Year's Eve gigs are extra fun because revellers who brave the cold weather are usually there to party.

Furtado plans to perform a mix of new and old tunes from her five albums at Entertainment Tonight Canada's fourth annual New Year's Eve at Niagara Falls.

The two-hour show, hosted by Cheryl Hickey and Matte Babel, airs on Global.

Other acts on the bill include Dragonette and Hedley.

Furtado says she's been fascinated with Niagara Falls since she was a child and heard about it from her Portuguese relatives who stopped by the roaring waters during their visits from overseas.
