Zooming In: Contemporary Issues Through a Jewish Lens

Rabbi Alan Green from the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue will discuss: Judaism and the Environment. The 39 categories of forbidden activity on Shabbat seem arcane and highly restrictive, until we see the big picture of the power of refraining from altering the landscape of life as Nature has conceived of it. Shabbat observance has been the Jewish Earth Day for the past three thousand years. Isn’t it about time that the world (and we ourselves) caught on and caught up?

  • Marc Gallant/Winnipeg Free Press. Local- Peregrine Falcon Recovery Project. Baby peregrine falcons. 21 days old. Three baby falcons. Born on ledge on roof of Radisson hotel on Portage Avenue. Project Coordinator Tracy Maconachie said that these are third generation falcons to call the hotel home. Maconachie banded the legs of the birds for future identification as seen on this adult bird swooping just metres above. June 16, 2004.
