Essential oil crystals (basil)
What is it?
"Powerfully concentrated crystals made from crystallized prebiotic blue agave pulp infused with intensely flavourful essential oils," according to the company (Florisens) website. Developed in France, the crystals are designed to be sprinkled directly onto food or into drinks, like any other spice or seasoning.
Looks like:
The crystals look like sea salt with variations in colour depending on the flavour.
Tastes like:
The Florisens line includes basil, fennel, cardamom, bergamot, citrus, cinnamon, geranium, lemongrass, mint and coriander.
Because they're so concentrated to pack a flavourful punch, just a tiny pinch -- two or three crystals -- will suffice for most uses. Each jar contains an estimated 500 single uses.
Used in:
Essential oil crystals can be sprinkled onto dishes during or after cooking. For hot dishes, they should be added during the last stages of cooking or directly on to the plate before serving. They can also be used in the preparation of flavour-infused vinegars, oils and syrups or to aromatize water. Just add to your glass or a jug in the fridge.
