Snack on vegetarian sloppy joes while watching the Super Bowl game
The vegetarians who gather around the television set during the Super Bowl game on Feb. 5 will thank their hosts for serving a hearty snack that helps them stick to their meatless meal plan.
Here are sloppy joes on buns made with veggie ground round.
Overtime Sloppy Joes
1 pkg (340 g) veggie ground round
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, diced
250 ml (1 cup) ketchup
250 ml (1 cup) barbecue sauce
15 ml (1 tbsp) prepared mustard
Salt and pepper, to taste
6 hamburger buns
In a large skillet, cook veggie ground round, onion and garlic over medium heat until onion is slightly brown.
Add ketchup, barbecue sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
Serve about 125 ml (1/2 cup) of the veggie ground round mixture on each fresh hamburger bun.
Makes 6 servings.
