Ask the expert

DEAR MIKE,

My brother gave me this poker tobacco tin about five years ago because I was really into Texas Hold 'Em at the time. He recently told me he paid quite a bit for it at a local antique shop. He wouldn't tell me where he got it or how much he paid. I thought it may have come from your shop. Can you let me know what it would be worth today?

Thanks.

-- Jeff G., Winnipeg

DEAR JEFF,

It is entirely possible it could have come from our shop. I have sold many of these tins over the years.

It is a fairly scarce tin. There are two different sizes, with yours being the more common size. The Rock City Tobacco company was located in Quebec and your tin would date from the early 1900s. Your tin in its condition would sell for $150 to $200.
