Curling Game

Dear Mike,

I recently found this old metal curling game at a garage sale.

It is marked White Rose on the box that holds the curling rocks.

How old is the game, and what would it be worth?

Greg N.

Winnipeg

Dear Greg,

Your curling game was put out in conjunction with the White Rose Oil Company.

White Rose was one of Canada's largest oil companies. At one point it had more than 3,000 service stations across the country until it was purchased by Shell Oil in the early 1960s.

Your curling game will date from the late-1950s. It measures approximately 75 cm by 30 cm.

Due to the game's size and its subtle advertising, this curling game tends not to be very popular among collectors.

They sell for $75 to $100.

Now that former cabinet minister Theresa Oswald has entered the NDP leadership race, do you believe the "gang of five" rebel ministers were right to publicly criticize Premier Greg Selinger's leadership?
