This past week, shoe aficionados across the globe celebrated their appreciation for the always funky and endlessly fabulous creations of Canadian shoe designer John Fluevog as part of International Fluevog Day.
For those who have yet to experience the joy a Vog brings to your style repertoire, dearies, you are missing out.
John Fluevog is a Canadian designer and retailer of fashion-forward footwear for men and women. Established in 1970, Fluevog has created "unique soles for unique souls" that clearly stand out in a sea of mass production.
I got my first pair of Fluevogs -- a pair of black Mary Janes -- about 15 years ago and they are still absolutely fantastic.
While unique and cutting-edge, Fluevog specializes in a signature style that transcends the trends and continues to look great year after year. That signature style is the designer's beautiful brogues -- and brogue-inspired shoes -- in all sorts of shapes and styles.
Among my favourite classic styles these days is the Mollie Johnson. This sleek, brogue-inspired lace-up Mary Jane heel is crafted using oh-so-soft two-tone Italian leather and incorporates an oh-so-comfortable 2.5-inch Fellowship heel -- a structured heel that tapers then expands, making the shoes ideal for the office (a place that can always use a little funking up).
Another classic beauty is the Rubens -- a sexy, triple-strap Mary Jane pump with decadent detailing such as patent tips, embossed leather and ornate buckles -- opulence at its best.
Now, I'm not all about the classic Fluevogs. I also love the latest Vogs, such as the Marvel peep-toe ankle strap sandal -- the perfect kicks for a sultry halter sundress with a teardrop neckline and a full skirt.
Nor am I just about the women's collections -- the men's line is equally stylish. Take, for example, the hipster Brandenburg Light, which comes in a rainbow of hues (although I am drawn to the cream or blue for the summer); or the Wynn high-top, brogue-inspired sneaker for a more casual look.
