I just love an autumn afternoon stroll though our beautiful, golden-canopied neighbourhoods. I like it even better when it includes a good cup of coffee and the promise of boutique window shopping along the way.
Such was the case last weekend when I happened to pass by Soul Shoes and Accessories. There in the window were this fall's latest trend and top of my list for this season: the ankle boot.
It offers a stylish and playful alternative to the classic riding or knee-high dress boot. It's also the perfect piece of footwear to take you through the fall transition from summer to winter.
This season's styles range from military- and western-inspired to city sleek and country chic.
One of my favourites is the Megan bootie by Montreal-based La Canadienne. They're just the right level of dressy for the office, but casual enough to wear with a weekend frock. And in traditional La Canadienne fashion, they're waterproof and lined, with a cushioned and rubberized sole.
I'm also a big fan of the western-inspired bootie. A subtle touch of country-western style in the detailing and shape give these booties a splash of rustic chic without looking, well, cowgirl.
The best thing about ankle boots, regardless of style, is that they look great with everything, from dressy and casual frocks to pencil or mini-skirts to slim-cut jeans and corduroy pants. They really are a versatile piece of footwear that anyone can pull off, regardless of age or body type.
This season's hottest trends aren't the only new thing at Soul Shoes and Accessories. Just two weeks ago the Corydon area boutique launched an online-shopping component to its website.
"It was a bit overwhelming at first but it was time for a change, the sky is the limit when it comes to e-commerce," says owner Pam Sarlas. "We've been here for seven years now and it's been awesome, but I really felt like we could do more."
Sarlas says adding online shopping was just another way to enhance the customer experience, not to mention a great way to take what they have to offer coast to coast with the click of a button.
