Hillberg & Berk designer glitters after catching eyes of CBC dealmakers

  • Print

Who can really, in all honesty, say they have enough accessories?

I know I certainly can't. I will take pretty much any opportunity I have to add to my collection -- costume, sterling or gold, semi-precious stones or the real deal... it doesn't really matter -- jewelry is one of my favourite ways to treat myself to a trinket or two.

So suffice to say, I get excited every time a jewelry designer comes out with a new collection and the fall/winter line by Hillberg & Berk is no exception.

I was first introduced to Hillberg & Berk designer Rachel Mielke a while back after she received a coveted nod from the venture capitalists from CBC's Dragons' Den. After perusing her collection, it was evident why they were interested.

Stunning and sophisticated is what immediately came to mind. Her pieces are made for the modern woman looking for something classy and chic; yet still wants to wear accessories that are unique enough that they stand out. Because really, who wants to blend into the crowd? Not this fashionista that's for sure.

The Hillberg & Berk fall/winter 2013 collection -- Aurora Lux -- is funky and fabulous and ever-so eye-catching that you will definitely be no wallflower at any fall function.

A combination of metals, semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals, this collection beautifully defines Hillberg and Berk. Think layers of silver adorned with sparking baubles or long strand chains supporting clusters of crystals in rich hues hanging from your neck.

I also adore the bracelets in the Aurora Lux collection, which are absolutely perfect for layering together. Among my favourite groupings is a bracelet featuring orbs of jasper, quartz, pyrite, smoke- and champagne-hued Swarovski crystal and distressed sterling silver rings with one entirely constructed with strung together varying shapes of Swarovski crystal beads in those same earthy tones.

I can go on and on expressing how fabulous this new collection. You can check out Hillberg & Berk here in the 'Peg for yourself at Lola Boutique, at 11-2090 Corydon Ave., or at David Rice Jewelry + Objects at 100 Osborne St. The entire Aurora Lux collection is also available online at www.hillbergandberk.com.
