Electric car showcase
A public showcase of electric vehicles comes to Assiniboine Park. Talk to owners, check out vehicles including the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Chevy Volt, and get chauffeured rides around the park. Today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre. (Rain date: Saturday, Sept. 22.) Sponsored by the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Association. For more information, visit www.manitobaev.ca.
Migration festival
Activities include a songbird-banding demonstration, horse-drawn wagon rides, visits from live birds of prey and a rooftop fly-in to witness thousands of geese returning and leaving the marsh. Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23, Oak Hammock Marsh. Details at www.oakhammockmarsh.ca.
Root cellar workshop
Want to build your own root cellar? Learn about and get hands-on experience constructing three types of cellars that can store produce year-round. Runs Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30, Harborside Farms, near Pilot Mound. Cost is $100, and includes workshop, food and tenting space. Participants must bring their own camping gear.
