Accomplishments: Gervais, along with friend and former Official Voyageur Gisèle Brunet and seven others, cycled 600 kilometres from Saigon to Bangkok last month. It was a great adventure for the two women, friends for 15 years, as well as a daily fitness test.
"It was a great challenge for us and you get to go into areas where tourists don't usually go into and meet people there who often don't see Westerners," she said. "The hills were pretty tough some days! Even though we trained all summer, we don't have those kinds of hills here."
Gervais, her husband, Roger Chamberland, daughter Réanne, 22, and son Justin, 17, returned as Official Voyageurs for this year's festival. As part of the 45th celebration, OVs from previous years have been invited back to host a day. 1. Favourite workout?
Cycling is my new high but I'm not yet into winter cycling so I need to mix things up. I enjoy class-style workouts like Zumba and spin classes.
2. Favourite workout song?
My favorite part about Zumba is the music. You can't help but move to it. Songs like Danza Kuduro by Don Omar or Zumba He Zumba Ha by Soldat Jahman are real motivators and fun to dance to. But during Festival du Voyageur, any Cajun tune or a good old French-Canadian jig will get the heart pumping.
3. Fitness tip?
Do some form of exercise every day, get enough sleep and drink lots of water. The latter two I still need to work on.
4.What's in your fridge?
I start every day with a bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal, with raisins and a banana. That gets me through the day without loading me up with sugar. My go-to quick snacks includes yogurt, fibre bars, fruit and popcorn.
5.What's your guilty pleasure?
A glass (or two) of wine on Friday night to mark the start of the weekend.
