Man armed with gun threatens shop clerk inside St. Catharines, Ont., hospital

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Niagara regional police say they're searching for a suspect after a man with a handgun confronted a person at a St. Catharines hospital.

Police say the man entered the Niagara Health System's Ontario Street site by the main front entrance, and confronted a clerk from a small catering shop within the hospital.

The man is alleged to have threatened the clerk with the handgun before fleeing the hospital through a rear exit.

Investigators say the incident was not an intended robbery, but the clerk was specifically sought out by the suspect.

No one was injured.

The suspect is described as male, Hispanic, 20 to 25 years of age and five-foot-10 with a medium build and short, dark, curly hair.
