ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association is expressing concerns about the sustainability of the province's health care system following a meeting with Health Minister Susan Sullivan.

The association is upset with recent cuts to provincially insured services they say were made without consultation.

Laser treatment of vascular lesions of the face including conditions like rosacea, will no longer be covered, while the treatment of port wine stains, a type of birth mark, will have to undergo prior approval.

The association says it is aware that these are tough fiscal times and savings have to be found, but they want to be part of the process.

Sullivan says while she values the importance of communication the government has the latitude to make a decision.

Sullivan says there are no other plans to de-list services from the insurance plan at this time.
