Actor, dancer, singer and performer at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Accomplishments: The Winnipeg Free Press anointed Walmsley as "the triple-threat tenor from Neepawa" last year when he performed the role of Matthew in the hit musical show Altar Boyz at the Prairie Theatre Exchange. Growing up in "Manitoba's Most Beautiful Town," Walmsley is on his way to building a beautiful career as a young performer who is stunning in singing, dancing and acting. Growing up, he participated in every sport he could -- soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton and shotokan karate -- so it's no surprise Walmsley continues to work hard on his fitness and has made it part of his profession. Though his home base has been Toronto for the past year, his performances take him on the road, including the road back home to Manitoba. Walmsley is thrilled to be working at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (MTC) this fall and winter. He will play a doctor named Lyman Sanders in the MTC production Harvey Oct. 17 to Nov. 9, a comedy that involves an invisible friend who is a six-foot white rabbit.
Walmsley will play multiple roles -- St. John Rivers, John Reed, an elderly Scottish woman, among others -- in the MTC's Jane Eyre, which runs Jan. 9 to Feb. 1, 2014.
"Being back home, it's so, so great," Walmsley said. "To see friends and family, and it's nice to perform for an audience that is your friends and family. People know you, they know a bit of your work. Harvey is a great play with a lot of seasoned actors. I feel blessed to be a part of it." He also played Chuck in the Rainbow Stage Production last summer of Footloose.
1. Favourite workout?
Strength training with dumbbells. I try to get to the gym five times a week, cardio and core training is pretty much throughout.
2. Favourite workout song
My workout song constantly changes. I listen to songs that I love over and over again and therefore I tend to get bored quickly with them. I love pretty much anything with a driving beat. Lately I'm digging Justin Timberlake's Take Back the Night.
3. Fitness tip?
Consistency. Push yourself.
4.What's in your fridge?
Me eating at home is pretty regimental, and a tad boring. But you will most likely find egg whites, spinach and chicken breasts. I am also in love with tuna. Try mixing it with pepper and old-style mustard! So good. Protein. Protein. Protein.
5.What's your guilty pleasure?
I sometimes look in the mirror and see blue. I am a cookie monster.
