SIMON BURGESS

Creative director, co-owner of Coelement Inc., with partner Adam Duguay

Accomplishments: Burgess, Duguay and their small staff of six at Coelement have made an international name for themselves as a successful video marketing agency. You've seen their productions -- and perhaps not known it ---in television commercials such as the Manitoba Pork Council 'Family Behind The Farm' series. In addition to running his own business, Burgess and his wife have two pre-school children aged 2 and 3. "Both of these areas in my life keep me very busy and demand a great deal of energy, creativity and smart decision-making. I've focused a lot more on optimizing my health and performance, especially my energy levels. I've found exercise, good nutrition, and proper sleep have a huge impact," he said.

At Coelement, fitness is part of the workplace with an exercise area consisting of a TRX (a suspension training system), exercise ball, mats, and bands and encourage the staff to take regular movement breaks. Staff were also supplied with Fitbits (wearable wireless activity trackers) to encourage movement throughout the day.

1. Favourite workout

Kettle bell and free weights. I work out twice a week at Serratus Personal Training; one day with Serratus owner Corwin Materuk and the other day in a kettle bell class.

2. Favourite workout song

All Nightmare Long -- Metallica

3. Fitness tip

Eat real food (not food-like products) and get fresh air.

4. What's in your fridge?

Eggs, leafy greens, sweet potatoes. I avoid processed and packaged foods as well as grains, and eat mostly vegetables, meat, fruit, nuts and seeds. My whole family starts each day with a smoothie, consisting of kale, spinach, chia seeds, berries, a banana, coconut milk and water. The kids love it!

5. Guilty pleasure

I'm addicted to Lindt chocolate with sea salt -- amazing!
