Giving is always in style, but two events combine charity and chicness in new ways

When local style maven Tia Provici had to have surgery after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure, she relied on the dedicated staff and support team at the St. Boniface Heart Clinic to help her though that difficult time.

"I had to undergo (getting a) pacemaker at a young age," says Provici. "I am extremely grateful to have been under the care of this compassionate medical team. I feel so blessed and now, along with my friends, I want to give back."

On Thursday, Provici, along with Aldo Formal Wear, Paperdoll Clothing and local designer Lennard Taylor, are teaming up for an evening of fashion, fun and fundraising as they present Unveiled: Baring the Artistic Soul.

"I'm hoping this event shines a light on the importance of heart health and awareness," says Provici.

According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, nine in 10 women have at least one risk factor for heart disease or stroke and it is a leading cause of death for Canadian women. But through lifestyle changes, women can reduce their risk by as much as 80 per cent.

With heart disease so prevalent among women, it really shouldn't come as a big surprise that there's more than one fundraising event for heart disease awareness and prevention on the agenda for Thursday. Fashionistas can also contribute to the cause at the Heart and Stroke Foundation's first I (Heart) Shoes Auction.

During the event, 120 pairs of shoes ranging in size from six to 11 will be auctioned off, including high-end designer brands such as Stella McCartney, Jimmy Choo, Bottega Veneta and Roberto Cavalli. The auction will also feature TOMS shoes, giving you a double bang for your philanthropic buck (for every pair of TOMS sold, the company donates a pair to a child in need).

Unveiled takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. (show begins at 7 p.m.) at Boa Lounge, 177 Lombard Ave. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Provici Cosmetics, 214 McDermot Ave.; Aldo Formal Wear, 310 Notre Dame Ave.; or at the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation office.

The I (Heart) Shoes Auction takes place at the Delta Winnipeg. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the auctions begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at LiveRed.mb.ca/HeartTruth or by calling 204-949-2019 or toll-free 1-888-473-4636.
