Monster flop

  • Print

YOU, Frankenstein, have been pulled over for stumbling.

I, Frankenstein, the special effects-laden monster film that was the only major newcomer of the weekend, staggered from the box office starting gate and was no match for Ride Along, the Kevin Hart comedy that has become the monster hit of January. Ride, which had the biggest January opener on record last week with a debut of US$41.5 million, took the top spot at theatres with $21.2 million, box office trackers Rentrak said. That brings Ride's total to $75.4 million.

Frankenstein, a thriller starring Aaron Eckhart, never came to life, managing just $8.3 million and sixth place. It was expected to finish second.
