'Old World meets new street'

New fall men's collection from local designer is both classic and edgy

  • Print

Can you feel that chill in the air? Well, it's official, the lazy days of summer are over -- it's the first day of fall and I can think of no better way to celebrate the change of the seasons than by featuring one of the city's hottest labels and its latest collection.

Winnipeg design house Lennard Taylor is just days away from premiering its fall men's collection, a line of sleek silhouettes and sophisticated charm.

"This collection is edgy meets casual; it's warmth and function with a twist. It's Old World meets new street," says Lennard Taylor of his eponymous line.

Inspired by the fine balance between comfortable practicality and stylish individualism, the fall men's collection incorporates natural textiles such as raw cotton, denim and Italian leather to create menswear that is neither fussy nor over-relaxed, but rather laid-back with class.

"This collection is for lovers of classic style and for those who want to make a statement," explains Taylor. "It has some edgy pieces that will catch your eye and it also has those everyday comfortable pieces for the more subtle person. This collection is for someone who is comfortable in their skin, which translates to their second skin -- their clothing."

The collection is also a reflection of how the designer label has evolved and grown over the past couple years, from the early days of pop-up shops at local street festivals to finding a permanent home in the Exchange District in a retail warehouse space befitting an urban chic brand.

And according to the designer, the Lennard Taylor brand has been nothing short of a much-needed fashion fix for local style-savvy gents and, he hopes, global trendsetters in the years to come.

"The local reception has been great -- everyone is very enthusiastic. I hope that one day the people who came to my shows in Winnipeg can say, 'Hey, I went to one of his shows before he sprung to New York or Paris fashion weeks,'" says Taylor.

Get a first-hand look at the latest collection from Lennard Taylor at the fall collection fashion show and boutique blowout sale Thursday, Sept. 27 at 89 Princess St. Doors open at 7 p.m with the first of three fashion shows starting at 7:30, followed by shows at 8:30 and 9:30. Or you can check it out online at www.lennardtaylor.com.
