Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

Shop, stare, just don't expect to sort

Sometimes you just want to shop for the pure joy of looking at cool things. And the app for Fab, a curated shopping site, is just the place to do that. Particularly on the iPad, the Fab app lays out all of the site's products -- sales on top! -- in a grid that gives you a great overview of its quirky merchandise. You can drill down into categories such as "Pets" or "Kitchen and Pantry," though those shops remain broad.

One drawback: Fab's app can be maddening for the very same reason it's charming. There aren't that many sorting options, so you have to scroll through a whole section of goods to see whether there's anything you want. Sometimes you find great products that you hadn't expected to find. Other times, it's just annoying.

Don't go to Fab if you want a specific item, but if you're looking for "something cool for the guest room," then give it a whirl. Free, for iOS devices.
