Video of the Week: Pip Skid -- Shirley Temple (feat B-Flat of the Lytics)

Taken from his recent pay-what-you-want album, People Are The Worst, on the Marathon of Dope label, former Brandon rapper Pip Skid, one of the province's hip-hop veterans, turns out another captivating video. His old Farm Fresh partner, mcenroe, is behind the lens as director and B-Flat from the Lytics handles the hook. Shirley Temple was produced by Aries and features additional playing by Oldfolks Home. On Dec. 15, Pip will play a rare kid-friendly, all-ages show with DJ Co-op at Legion #1, 626 Sargent Ave. Tickets are just $5 for those 16 and over and $2 for those 15 and under. Kids five and under are free.

Even during the early days of the Internet, one of its primary functions was to help people waste time. Everyone probably has a short (or maybe long) list of sites they like to hit up when they want to fritter away an hour and do nothing productive. These aren't the type of sites that will help you in your daily grind, but they will help you escape it.
The Useless Web is exactly that, a collection of "the world's most pointless websites." Like Google's I'm Feeling Lucky function, one click will take you into a world of animated GIFs, silly single-serving sites, dancing 8-bit characters and all the wacky, pointless wonders of the web.

At the other end of the spectrum, TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) talks have re-imagined how to share and spread important ideas online. You may have watched a few of the short presentations on Netflix or heard someone in your office talk about the conference that was held in Winnipeg -- or maybe you were just curious about a topic and stumbled on the videos during your online searches.
If you are new to the TED world, the sheer volume of content you can stream from the website can be overwhelming, but an easy and time-saving way to identify some of the videos you may want to watch is through their playlist function. You can see guest curated lists by people such as writer/publisher Dave Eggers, superstar rocker Bono and Lost producer Damon Lindelof. You can also browse by topic, which is one of the best ways to wade into the thousands of inspiring and informative videos.
Track of the Week: Grimes -- Genesis (Ryan Hemsworth remix)

She was one of the highlights of Skrillex's Full Flex Express train tour that rolled into Shaw Park this past summer and she was scheduled to hit the city this fall, but recent problems with her hearing have sidelined Vancouver avant-pop artist Claire Boucher, also known as Grimes.
While not an official remix, Halifax's Ryan Hemsworth turns out a trap-inflected reworking of Grimes' Genesis. Hopefully that can hold off local fans until a rescheduled date for the city can be secured.
