BEST known for his time in indie-dance act LCD Soundsystem, James Murphy, along with Tim Goldsworthy and Jonathan Galkin, is also part of DFA records, one of the most successful underground labels of the 2000s. The label has released over 140 12-inch singles and 34 albums in just 12 years.

This short documentary takes a quick look at the respected New York label and its history.

Bud Light DJ Battle

bit.ly/bud_light

WITH 14 DJs from across Canada competing against each other as part of Bud Light's online DJ Battle, local hopeful Hollywood Hype will need all the support from Manitobans he can get. One of Winnipeg's busiest club DJs, with a number of high-profile residencies and opening slots for DJs like Steve Aoki, Tiesto and Fedde Le Grand, John Skene, a.k.a. Hollywood Hype, is no stranger to rocking parties. He also has some skills in the studio. His track, He Is, looks like it's gaining momentum in the nationwide online contest.

You can vote for your favourite track and DJ once a day, with a daily chance to win two tickets to Bud Light's Sensation party on June 1 in Toronto. The massive electronic music spectacle will feature Fedde le Grand, Eric Prydz, Otto Knows and other big room talent.

MP3 of the Week: Primus

IF you've forgotten about Les Claypool's freaky band Primus, or if you haven't heard of it before, then the re-release of Sailing the Seas of Cheese in a new stereo and Dolby 5.1 Surround mix on May 21 is worth taking notice of. The band will bring its 3D live show to the Burt on May 31.

In the meantime, here are some tracks from the band's back catalogue to get excited for the concert.

Video of the Week: The Gaslamp Killer -- In The Dark

bit.ly/in_the_dark

SET to make his first appearance in Winnipeg as part of the jazz festival, Los Angeles-based beat maverick the Gaslamp Killer will be performing at the Pyramid on June 18 along with locals Tim Hoover (live PA) and a special late-night set from LAMBO. The Gaslamp Killer's genre-bending set should go over well with Winnipeggers eager to hear his beat-drenched sound.

Directed by Hyperballad, In The Dark is the West Coast producer's latest single.
