The world of Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo and streaming video on-demand is getting bigger every day, but if you're stuck watching videos on your desktop, laptop, mobile phone or tablet, you are really missing out on a full-fledged video experience. At a time when many homes have a big-screen TV as the centrepiece to their home entertainment setup, why are some people still not taking advantage of the technology and comfort that is right in front of them?
If you're looking to enhance your video experience and move to a more connected world where your videos, YouTube favourites and preferred on-demand sites are accessible on your living room TV, Mashable breaks down some of the popular choices to help you bring the web to your television. From ultra-cheap solutions like Roku's settop box to using your existing PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 to Apple's all-in-one Apple TV device, there are plenty of affordable options to take video from the web to the televisions in your home or apartment.
Although Skrillex and his merry band of travelling DJs had to postpone their Full Flex Express train tour this year, Sound Republic's Summer of Sound is looking to fill a bit of that void. Set for Wednesday, June 26, this massive one-day party will feature performances by electronic artists like Krewella, Excision, Showtek and Morgan Page, along with fire-breathers, dunk tanks, fireworks, marching bands, and even wakeboarding demos. Tickets are available at diyobo.com and will set you back $45 (plus fees) for general admission and $85 (plus fees) for VIP access. Parking at the venue will be $10.
Note: this event was originally scheduled to take place at Maple Grove Rugby Park, but has been relocated to Adrenaline Adventures in Headingley.
As a prelude to Shad's upcoming full-length album and based on their shared love in high school of OutKast's Aquemeni album, the Toronto-based MC and Skratch Bastid hooked up for a quick five-song EP that features production work on one track from hip hop legend DJ Jazzy Jeff, and one cut with Edmonton-bred rapper and poet laureate Cadence Weapon. If you like your hip hop with a throwback feel, anchored by big, punchy drums, quick cuts on the turntables and nimble wordplay, you'll be extremely happy with what this DJ and MC managed to pull off with only a few days in the studio together. Available as a free download.
Did you wait too long to get tickets to Questlove's DJ set at The Pyramid as part of the Jazz Winnipeg Festival? While the late-night DJ show is sold out (tickets are still available for his performance on Saturday, June 22, as part of his day job in The Roots), you can hear what you missed with this video from the Red Bull Music Academy in New York, where the talented drummer and DJ dropped a classic set of hip hop, R&B and soul.
