Grand Theft Auto: Online Gameplay Preview

www.rockstargames.com/V/GTAOnline

ROCKSTAR Games recently unveiled a new video highlighting some of the updated online-gameplay aspects of their upcoming blockbuster game, Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA5). Although GTA4's single-player mode was groundbreaking, the online component didn't play off some of the main strengths of the controversial video-game franchise. Hoping to quiet critics and expand the online user base, GTA5 will feature an immersive, dynamic, sprawling world that will also allow for increased customization of your player and vehicles, more ambient events (round of golf anyone?) and missions players can choose to participate in, such as bank heists. While only 16 players can participate in any online session, you'll be able to raise cash, build a reputation through missions and buy property, cars and clothes. Rockstar has also promised ongoing content updates, so the world of GTA5 will continue to grow. After a few delays, GTA5 is scheduled to hit stores Oct. 1.

WHAT happens when you combine the world of Charlie Brown and random lyrics from morose Smiths' frontman Morrissey? You get the wonderfully juxtaposed This Charming Charlie. Following in the footsteps of Garfield Minus Garfield and the Nietzsche Family Circus, Bay Area graphic designer Lauren LoPrete has come up with another Internet gem.

Rap Sheet (This Day On)" [feat Saukrates] -- Grand Analog

bit.ly/grand_analog

IT'S been four years since genre-bending Winnipeg/Toronto act Grand Analog's last album, but the group is still dishing out cuts that touch on classic hip hop, electronic beats, funk and rock. Released on Aug. 20, Modern Thunder is an album inspired by love and the city. Vocalist Odario Williams, bassist Warren Bray, keyboardist Alister Johnson, drummer TJ Garcia and DJ Ofield Williams come out of the gate strong with the dub-inflected Rap Sheet (This Day On), which features a guest spot by Canadian hip-hop icon Saukrates. Other guests on the album include Shad, Maylee Todd, Saidah Baba Talibah, Peter Katz, TALWST, Amanda Balsys (of the Wilderness of Manitoba), Andrina Turenne (of Chic Gamine), Len Bowen and Bahia Watson. Grand Analog will be performing Aug. 22 at the newly opened Union Sound Hall at 110 Market Ave. Also on the bill are Vikings, the Happy Unfortunate, Len Bowen and DJs Andrina and brothers Ofield and Odario. Tickets are $12 and are available at the Urban Bakery.
