Google Glass is the future
SO many people are ruling that Google Glass is dumb, it looks stupid and they would never wear it. Do I agree? Not a chance. A lot of people said Facebook was dumb back in the day, and now everybody is using it.
When it comes to innovative technology, people love to follow the herd. No one wants to look stupid and be the only one using a product or social network. Every new service takes a few bold people to start using it before all the sheep start to follow. I would bet in two to four years, seeing someone with Google Glass on the street won't even make you turn your head. Google is in the beginning stages of Glass and it still has some work to do, but it bugs me so much when people rule it out right from the beginning just because there isn't a herd of people supporting it. I truly do believe Google Glass is the future and people should be receptive and open-minded to it now. What are your thoughts? Send me a tweet (@thedavidbell).
Facebook is the next YouTube?
FACEBOOK has a native video platform that is pretty popular. In no way does it compare to YouTube, but Facebook does have a lot of videos uploaded. Jay-Z used Facebook for the release of his music video, Holy Grail, with Justin Timberlake. It was uploaded exclusively to Facebook for 24 hours. Within that time, the video received 249,000 likes, 93,000 shares and 15,000 comments. Jay-Z and Timberlake's page likes skyrocketed in the process as well.
Jay-Z loves exclusivity. He launched the Magna Carta Holy Grail album through a $30-million partnership with Samsung, making it only available to Samsung users for the first few days. This makes me wonder... could Facebook be the next YouTube and launch Facebook Video as an actual competitive viewing and uploading platform? I think there is a slight chance. I've been a YouTube partner for years, and throughout the process, even logging into YouTube has been hard. Facebook is a platform with lots of users, and if it decided video was the next thing, I think they could take on YouTube.
Think about it -- all of the fan pages would be the user accounts for the videos and interaction and page likes would grow so fast, it would be the mega-platform to use again. Work on it Facebook, I think it's a great idea.
I remember being on the school bus in Grade 6 playing with my Nintendo DS. In Grade 8, I totally forgot about the DS and turned to the iPod. Writing this article now, I've realized Nintendo is still kicking and has announced its new device, the 2DS, for only $129 -- which I think is really smart, because they are pricing themselves $100 cheaper then the iPod. This will enable Nintendo to be big again, because parents will opt for the cheaper device. The device itself isn't too extraordinary, but I think it's a really good product that will become popular again. The only issue is on an iPod, there are way more apps available than for Nintendo.
SPEAKING of Google Glass, Apple's alleged Glass competitor, iWatch, is slated to be released in 2014. The iWatch is supposed to be an extension of your iPhone with a slightly different feature set. Futuristic technology such as this and Glass gets me so amped up! Imagine wearing a device on your wrist that tells the time, but also lights up when you have a text message, Facebook message or phone call.
Or imagine casually looking down at your wrist and checking the weather. I think it's the tops. Some would argue it's a useless gadget you don't really need, but I would really like to wear a watch that is smart enough to tell me when my meetings are, or when I have a notification from my phone. I think it would make my life easier (and so much cooler) all at the same time.
