Last week, one of the biggest names in lingerie finally opened its doors to local lovers of silky, lacy, pretty things -- and in this fashionista's humble opinion, the Victoria's Secret Polo Park store could not have come at a better time.
Forget about the fact that the holiday shopping season is just around the corner, and a lacy item or two -- or even a gift card -- would be welcomed with open arms by pretty much any woman. A more compelling reason to frequent the lingerie giant is because word on the street is that the adult version of a onesie is gaining popularity as the PJ of choice for some ladies out there.
In the words of Twitter-ville SMH ... Why on Earth would any self-respecting, style-savvy woman want to shroud herself in something you dress a baby in? Especially when the newly opened VS offers so many pretty sleep- and lounge-wear options?
At the top of my anti-onesie option list is the sleek yet comfortable satin polka-dot pyjama set introduced for the holiday season. It offers neck-to-ankle coverage for those looking for something less revealing than a silk nightie. And unlike the fleece onesie, this set boasts style and sophistication.
An alternative to the pants and jacket is the chemise-and-kimono duo. I absolutely adore how feminine and classy this set looks, with its exotic floral print and delicate lace detail on classic black satin. It's ideal for the lady who wants something extra special to sleep in, but who still prefers a bit of coverage.
For the bold and beautiful, the satin or chiffon chemise are an excellent choice. Both sway more to the sexy side (and ladies, sexy is the exact opposite of the onesie), but they're by no means provocative or revealing. A chemise is something special for yourself -- or to show off to someone you love.
And then there's the boxer: fun, flirty and fabulous. I love these plaid sleeper shorts with their little bits of holiday silver sparkle. These are ideal for any woman who loves to lounge in comfort. Team them up with a tank, a cosy wrap and some cutesy slipper socks -- how adorable will you look fireside this holiday season?
Armed with these grown-up options, the Winnipeg fashionista shall prevail, weathering yet another gaudy trend that will hopefully soon go the way of sweatpants with a butt label and UGG boots.
