Shop, eat, mingle at Park craft sale

THE holiday season is just around the corner. Within weeks, everywhere you look there will be masses mobbing the malls and browsers filling bustling boutiques, all desperately seeking the perfect presents for under the tree.

For those looking to get a head start on their shopping lists, the city's craft circuit is just about to begin. From buttery baked goods to organic soaps and handmade baubles, the holiday craft show is the right destination for anyone looking for one-of-a-kind gifts for that someone special on your list.

Oh, For Craft's Sake is the newest artisan show to hit the city, filling the void left by This Ain't Your Grandma's Craft Sale, which has hung up its knitting needles.

"The Park Theatre was constantly getting calls from prospective vendors who wanted to be part of the show. I was beginning to think about a show I would like to be part of at the same time, so I said, 'Why not just put on my own show?'" says organizer and designer Sarah Brooker.

According to Brooker, what sets Oh, For Crafts Sake apart from similar shows is its social shopping experience, which encourages shoppers to mix and mingle as they browse while sipping wine and noshing on treats.

"It really fits the need of the Christmas shopping crowd that likes to purchase local but prefers a more intimate setting, as opposed to the larger craft shows that might be a bit overwhelming with the rows and rows of tables," Brooker says.

In total, 15 local vendors are selling their wares at the show. Items on offer include everything from handcrafted exotic-wood shaving kits, repurposed leather works, clothing and, of course, a baked good or two.

Oh, For Crafts Sake takes place on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Park Theatre, 698 Osborne St. Admission is free; however, organizers will be collecting non-perishable goods for Winnipeg Harvest.
