Maximize Your Weekend with the 35 Most Popular Restaurant Apps

Everyone knows the first thing you look for when you travel are places to eat, and here at home, Winnipeg has a vibrant restaurant scene that's worth exploring, too. It's not as hard as it used to be to find out what restaurants people are choosing and what they thought about their dining experience.

If you have an Android or iOS device, this infographic from Mashable breaks down the most effective restaurant apps, from tracking down places to eat and finding the best crowd-sourced reviews to locating the best deal or finding a place that rocks at delivering food or earning you loyalty points.

You obviously aren't going to need all 35 apps. Pick one or two from each category, try them out and see which one works best for you and your family.

10 Terrific Food Documentaries To Stream On Netflix Tonight

If you're looking for food-related documentaries, Netflix seems to have a growing list of must-see docs, including Beers Wars, Farmaggedon, which the New York Times called "part consumer-rights advocacy, part abuse-of-power exposé," and Vegucated, which looks at three people making the switch to veganism. There are documentaries about all aspects of food culture and production.

A couple of the films on's list might not yet be available on the Canadian side of the video streaming services -- you could wait until they make it north of the border or do a bit of research online about how to activate American Netflix in Canada.

Video of the Week

Venetian Snares -- Szerencsétlen

Winnipeg is a hotbed of music, but one of its most successful acts is virtually unknown in his own hometown. Maverick electronic producer Aaron Funk, who records and performs under the name Venetian Snares, has been releasing music since the late 1990s on a variety of respected labels, including the critically acclaimed Planet Mu. His unique take on breakcore and prolific production output in the 2000s made him one of the most influential acts working within that sub-genre, but didn't do much to raise his profile in Manitoba.

In 2010, he worked with former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante on a project called Speed Dealer Moms. His latest album is called My So-Called Life and was put out on his own label, Timsig, and Planet Mu.

He makes a rare local live appearance at Bass Invaders at The Zoo on Feb. 23. Locals FmSea (live set), Karm and LAMBO are also on the bill. Tickets are $15 at Music Trader, Into the Music and the front desk at The Zoo.

Track of the Week

Bruno Mars -- Locked Out of Heaven (Solodisco Remix)

Amping up the '80s feel of Bruno Mars' Locked Out of Heaven with some supersized synths and aggressive guitars, Solodisco's mix takes Mars' hit to the next level. Grab the free download through his Facebook page. Well worth a quick "like."
