Yuri's Night 2013
For the fourth year in a row, the Manitoba Museum is throwing open its doors and commemorating the first human space flight by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and also the inaugural launch of NASA's Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981. Using the revamped Planetarium and its stunning new Digistar projector and allowing access to all the exhibits in the Science Gallery, local DJs The Shake (Lotek and Manalogue), Redworm, JFunk and Justin Kace will provide the spaced-out soundtrack to this unique event. Local music blog manalogue.com has pulled together mixes from the guest DJs, so you can preview the acts who will be performing.
Along with DJs playing a range of electronic styles from deep techno to blissed-out house, dubstep, breaks and ghetto funk, VJs Jaymez and Pixel Pusher will be presenting their own cutting-edge visuals and galactic exploration under the dome at the Planetarium, providing a full spectrum experience of sight and sound in one of Winnipeg's most intriguing venues.
Don't forget about the annual costume contest at Yuri's Night. Dress up as your favourite scientist, space-themed personality or scientific theory. Tickets are $12 in advance and are available online at manitobamuseum.ca. Make sure to purchase your ticket in advance, this event has sold out every year.
