Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

StreetStyle: Rachel Bae

As the weather gets warmer, the accessories get lighter. Rachel Bae went without jewelry and chose a loose, billowy outfit for the humid Tuesday afternoon. Too much jewelry in the spring and summer can get sticky against your skin; ditch the chunky stuff and grab a hat to jazz up your outfit instead.

Bae's look was flawless yet simple. She enjoys that laid-back feel and likes raiding her mom's closet every so often, looking for a vintage find. We interrupted Bae and her younger sister's grad-shoe shopping for a spur-of-the-moment fashion shoot on River Avenue in the Village.

What she wore...

Sweater -- "This is from Osborne Antiques. I don't know if it's vintage but I thought it was cute."

Top -- "This is from American Apparel and I just knotted it because it's too loose."

Skirt and shoes -- Forever 21

Purse -- "It's a Dooney and Bourke vintage bag from my mom."

Fashion essential

"I like high-waisted things; it gives you that nice feminine silhouette. Anything high-waisted, actually, like skirts, shorts or jeans. It makes your legs look longer, too and I think it suits a lot of body shapes."

Style inspiration

"I like Lana Del Rey -- she's a singer and I'm liking her look because it's very easygoing. Not too many accessories, just simple and laid-back. I always try to stay true to my own style and if I don't feel comfortable in it, I won't go out in public, so even if I get inspiration, I still just try and be me. My mom's a nice dresser; I think I get that from her. She would always get done up for church and look her best. I've always been conscious about what I'm wearing. Even when I was younger I would change my clothes five times a day."

Fashion tip

"If you like it and it makes you feel happy, you should wear it."
