StreetStyle: Ian Bawa

A button-up shirt is a classic piece for both men and women and can be worn on any occasion. Ian Bawa started wearing them recently for their versatility and because he is not interested in wearing logos. "Thanks for saying I look good!" he said when we interrupted him drinking his Parlour coffee. "You know what's funny? I just texted my friend, saying, 'Hey man, I feel really good today -- just had a good job interview and I'm feeling pretty good.' I'm one of those guys that will never admit that I'm metro, but I do pay attention to style," Bawa explains.

What he wore...

Sunglasses -- "They are from Grant Park mall at some kiosk for $15 dollars."

Button-up shirt -- "The shirt is from Gap."

Corduroys and belt -- "Old Navy. I do wear the corduroys a lot; they look dressy but not overly dressy."

Shoes -- "I think they were at some sidewalk sale on the street during some kind of festival in Winnipeg."

Watch -- "That's a good question. I stole it from my dad and I think it's from some jewelry store in P.E.I."

Bag -- "Kenneth Cole. I was in a movie and I had to cover the label up; I'm in film."

FASHION ESSENTIAL

"Either my sunglasses or watch -- you feel ready for the day. A watch is pretty essential, I find, because I don't like relying on my cellphone. Watches are so rare these days; people cling onto their cellphones. Plus I get a lot of compliments and this isn't my regular watch. Fun fact: if you wear a black-strap watch, more people will compliment you on it."

STYLE INSPIRATION

"My friend -- he's completely a hipster but I think I'm a preppy hipster because I wear a lot of button-up shirts and my clothes are getting tighter for some reason. I'm buying more fitted clothing, which is where style is kind of leading now. I watch a lot of TV shows and I steal from that; I'm a big fan of Mad Men and the show Suits -- it's a lawyer-type show with business attire. The lifestyle seems very cool and sophisticated."

FASHION TIP

"Wear slim, fitted clothes. I'm a gym-goer and I feel like going to the gym helps fit the clothes a little better."
