StreetStyle: Rachel Evans

Rachel Evans

A masters student at the University of Manitoba, Rachel Evans was spotted downtown with some girlfriends doing some impromptu shopping and attending an art and clothing event at Ordnry Clothing. Evans stays warm in the winter with big scarves and leather boots that she takes very good care of -- she's had the pair she's sporting in the photograph for more than six years. "I take good care of my leather; I clean them and oil them with Neatsfoot oil. I ride horses and that's what I use to clean my tack, so it works for your boots too," says Evans, whom we snapped on Saturday afternoon on McDermot Avenue.

What she wore...

Coat -- The Bay.

Purse -- "My purse is vintage Guess"

Scarf -- "My scarf is my mom's; she got it in the '70s."

Does your mom still wear it?

"No, I totally stole it from her," Evans says with a laugh. "It was in the basement in an old drawer with some other old antiques and stuff like that."

Boots -- "The boots are from Toronto; my big sister bought them for me probably six or seven years ago."

Tights -- Superstore.

Bracelet -- "The cuff is from a store down in Osborne... I can't remember."

Fashion essential

"My go-to-item is boots, always. As soon as it gets cold enough I wear boots. From there it's probably jeans, sweaters, scarves. I'm into fall. It's classic. As much as I can, I try and afford good-quality boots, I try to save up for the real deal."

How many pairs of boots do you have?

"I probably have about five pairs of leather boots. I stick with leather because it's comfortable -- and it's winter time in Winnipeg; I'm not running around in heels."

What do you wear when you go out in the evening?

"Sometimes a high-heeled boot or something like this. I have to go to work tonight so I have my outfit in my car, and I'm putting my outfit back on to go see a band play later."

Fashion tip

"Cool, comfortable and classic."

How can you stay warm and look good at the same time?

"Invest in a good scarf. My scarf keeps me really warm; that's how I can pull off sort of wearing a thinner coat... with a nice warm scarf. Cute tuques, gloves and boots."
