Graeme U

The Exchange District is filled with excitement all year long. Winnipeggers and tourists roaming the boutique filled streets, and trendy jewelry artists, designers and secondhand shops on every corner. StreetStyle and budget conscious student Graeme U was found walking out of his favourite store, Toad Hall Toys. Doing a little Christmas shopping in the area and holding a disassembled dollhouse for his grandma. Graeme calls himself an anglophile grabbing style inspiration and fashion tips from the U.K., and lead singer Brandon Flowers from the band The Killers.

What he wore...

COAT - "I think I got it at Bluenotes a few years ago actually, just before Christmas."

SHIRT - Winners

GLASSES - "They are Armani Exchange and I got them at Hakim Optical on Portage Avenue."

PANTS - "These pants are Sears catalogue, they're Levis."

SHOES - "These I got at Keystone Sports."

GLOVES & HAT - The Bay

What are you taking in school?

"I'm in my first year and sort of taking a buffet of different courses at the moment."

Fashion essential

"It's got to be plaid flannel shirts because they are comfortable and I like plaid. I'm a bit of an anglophile; I'm a fan of the U.K. That's not why I wear it but it makes it appealing. I like the stripes and mixing my outfit up with some colour."

How many plaid flannel shirts do you own?

"Probably eight or nine, I'd say."

Style inspiration

"I am a fan of the Killers -- Brandon Flowers who is the lead signer, is a very well-dressed man. It's not like I emulate him exactly but he's definitely well dressed. He dresses pretty casual with say a jean jacket and boots. I'd say my style isn't as casual as his. I think music inspires fashion and fashion inspires music a little bit."

Fashion tip

"Go to thrift stores, it's cheap and it's usually for a good cause. If you feel like spending money but you don't have money to spend it's a good place to check out."
