Teacher, teacher

The head of the class ought to add some fashion flair when returning to school

  • Print

I've said it time and time again, it may be back-to-school time for the kiddies, but that doesn't mean you can't treat yourself to something fabulous and new as well.

What I've never really been cognizant of -- or really considered for that matter -- is that it's also back-to-school time for teachers. Which raises the question: why shouldn't they treat themselves to some back-to-school fashion flair of their own?

Now I'm not advocating going out and getting a whole new wardrobe -- complete with some new gym class shoes and a spiffy new backpack. That would be a bit extreme, but a few new items couldn't hurt right?

So with that said, here are a few of my back-to-school essential extras to start the year off right.

The perfect carryall -- Leave the backpacks and canvas totes to the kids and elevate your studious style with a contemporary leather carryall. A leather carryall is perfect for teachers looking for a sleek way to tote the day's lessons to class, but still want to maintain an air of authority.

For him: the Jack Spade Boarskin & Nylon Split brief. For her: who could go wrong with the Coach Madison East/West tote.

Classic kicks -- One can't go back to school without a fabulous new pair of shoes -- it's one of those mandatory school-supply list items if you ask me, and I can think of no shoe better than the preppy Oxford. Ideal for fall, Oxfords can make any look from jeans and sports coat, to a pencil skirt and sweater look seamlessly put together.

For him: The Italian calfskin Westmore Wingtip by Johnston & Murphy. For her: The three-inch stacked heel lace-up Oxford-inspired Octa by Nine West.

Timeless timepiece -- A wristwatch is my new favourite accessory this year by far -- not to mention a far more stylish way to stay on time and ahead of the bell than your iPhone. Whether you go with something fun and funky, sporty or sleek -- a watch can be your avenue to a little personal style.

For him and for her: The Michael Kors Watch Hunger Stop watch. Best thing about this watch, aside from its classic style, World Food Programme will deliver 100 meals to children in need for every sale off the 100 Series watch.
