Barrett-Jackson sales up 17 per cent

So much for reports that the collector car market is getting soft.

According to Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, a total of 1,343 cars were sold at the company's annual collector car auction, held in Scottsdale, Ariz., last week. Gross sales reached $108,766,069, a 17-per-cent increase over sales from the 2012 auction.

Barrett-Jackson also reported this week that more than 300,000 people attended the event and more than $5 million was raised in support of various charities.

The top seller this year was the original Batmobile crafted by famed Hollywood car builder George Barris. It sold on Saturday for a whopping $4.62 million.
