Classic car collectors getting their own special plates
Dedicated car collectors will be able to buy a new collector license plate for their vehicle, if it qualifies, Justice Minister Andrew Swan announced today.
The new licence plate, as well as a new insurance package, will take effect March 1, 2014 as part of the new Collector Vehicle Program. The new program was created to reflect how little these cars are used on roads and the care that goes into them, a press release stated.
"This new program fits the needs of our members and collector vehicle owners across the province," Jim Penziwol, chair of the Manitoba Association of Automobile Clubs, said in the release.
The announcement comes on the third Collector Car Appreciation Day, which is recognized in Manitoba as well as a few other Canadian provinces.
The licence plate is reminiscent of the old Manitoba licence plate with a vintage yellow colour, and displaying the phrase 'Collector.' It will also allow current collectors with personalized plates to transfer their phrase onto their new collector plate.
The program is still subject to review and approval by the Public Utilities Board.
