About 60 people were on hand Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Niakwa Golf and Country Club for Auto Haus Porsche's introduction of the 2013 Cayenne diesel model.
"This is Porsche's first-ever diesel in North America," said Auto Haus sales rep Darren Hinchcliffe, noting the model has been available in Europe since 2009. "This is a clean diesel. The ride is very quiet."
The new model is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V-6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hinchcliffe said the model puts out 240 hp and 406 lb-ft. of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the diesel's towing capacity is about 7,800 pounds, he said.
"There has been a lot of interest in this model. We've already delivered one -- a factory order -- and currently have two more in stock. More models are on their way."
The base price for the new diesel Cayenne is $64,500, plus freight and pdi.
Birchwood Group Opens Third Credit Solution Location
The Birchwood Auto Group opened its third Birchwood Credit Solution location on August 1 at the former Star City Auto Sales lot at the corner of Salter and Partridge. The other locations are at the Pointe West AutoPark and on Regent.
The Birchwood Group launched their Credit Solution initiative 18 months ago, under the leadership of Sean Prout, to make it easier for people who are financially-challenged to afford a good vehicle.
"I worked in auto finance for 21 years," says Prout who was with TD Finance before joining the Birchwood Group. "I saw a lot of people who had difficulty getting financing, because of job loss or divorce or a disability, and they ended up paying very high interest rates to purchase vehicles. Birchwood Credit Solutions wants to help people with temporary financial difficulties to transition to regaining their credit standing and qualify for refinancing at regular lending rates as their financial picture improves."
Prout notes that all of the Birchwood Group's used vehicles go through a 120-point inspection process so that consumers can rest assured that all the vehicles are in good operating condition.

"I was there as his interpreter," Xi says. "Land Rovers are very popular with foreign students. (Sales Manager) Matt (Kozminsky) offered me a job here on the sales floor."
Xi graduated from the Asper School in the spring with a degree in Logistics and Accounting and decided to take up Kozminsky's offer.
He started in August.
"I have always liked cars and enjoy interacting with people," the 25-year-old says.
Murray Staff Members Work on Habitat for Humanity Build
Two weeks ago, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 15 employees from Murray Chevrolet and Murray Hyundai, including owner Dan Murray, donned a different type of working duds to help Habitat for Humanity build a home for a local Winnipeg family in need.
"After many years of supporting Habitat, this was our first time helping out on the build site," Murray says. "The site crew from Habitat was extremely knowledgeable. The day was a lot of hard work and one of the best team building events we have ever done."
The Murray employees was so pleased with the building experience that have already volunteered to join other builds this season and Dan Murray and his staff have committed to support future build dates in the years to come.
In addition to the build site, Dan Murray has made a $5000 contribution on behalf of his Winnipeg dealerships. The Chevrolet dealership also provides a brand new work truck and cargo van annually to support the hard working team from Habitat for Humanity.
