New 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Turbo Diesel scores best-in-class fuel economy
Customers primarily like diesels because they save on fuel. So its good to know that the new 2014 diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze Turbo Diesel compact sedan will get an estimated highway rating of 5.11 litres per 100 kilometres.
It's a number parent General Motors says beats the rival Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel, which scores 5.6 L/100 km on the highway. According to GM, this makes the Cruze diesel the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid passenger car in America.
VW CrossBlue Concept hints at next-gen Tiguan
Despite being held on the other side of the planet, this year's Shanghai auto show looked very much like the recent event held in New York City with plenty of crossover debuts.
The Volkswagen CrossBlue concept, a show car that will eventually lead to the new 2015 VW Tiguan cute-ute, uses the same electric drive components as VW's larger three-row CrossBlue concept from this year's Detroit show, with two electric motors front and back.
But instead of a four-cylinder diesel, this smaller version is powered by a gas six-cylinder for a total of 415 horsepower.
Mercedes to expand next-gen C-Class lineup
BMW's compact 3 Series is the perennial sales leader in its class in the U.S. and Canada. But according to a report from Automotive News, Mercedes-Benz intends to reverse that status.
"We were fighting the 3 Series with two arms tied behind our back, and now we will change that," Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon says.
After the all-new 2015 C-Class sedan goes on sale in late 2014, new convertible, diesel and hybrid models will arrive in 2015. But sorry, wagonistas: a C-Class wagon is still a no-go for North America.
"Rather than offering a station wagon, we clearly know that SUVs and light trucks are the way to go," Cannon says.
As well, don't expect a C-Class rival to the 3 Series Gran Turismo crossover-hatch, "an answer to a product question that no one is asking for," Cannon adds.
