The all-new 2014 Acura RLX, which arrived at Crown Acura about 10 days ago, is setting a new benchmark in interconnectivity.
Sales rep Adam O'Connor said the AcuraLink Connect app -- or MyAcura website -- allows you to remotely lock and unlock the doors, locate your car in a crowded lot and remotely check fuel level, tire pressure and odometer readings. For those who choose the AcuraLink Premium Package, a personalized concierge service, staffed by real people, can book appointments for you, tell you where the nearest Starbucks is and even take dictation and format letters for you.
The new RLX is so closely synchronized with your cellphone that you can download your favourite songs from the vehicle to your phone and listen to whatever you want, whenever you want it.
You can also send your GPS location to anyone and check the status of your vehicle anywhere in the world. Maybe, O'Connor suggested, you are visiting Toronto and want to check to see if one of the kids has taken the car out for a drive. As well, the satellite-navigation system can locate your vehicle anywhere in the world at all times.
And you'll have no need to book service appointments because your new RLX also does that automatically.
The new RLX, which replaces Acura's RL sedan, sports Jewel-Eye LED front headlights, a dual-stacked array consisting of eight separate high-intensity LED lamps that provide powerful illumination. Under the hood, the model is powered by a 3.5L, 24-valve Direct injection SOHC i-VTEC engine that puts out 310 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 272 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm.
The RLX's Precision All-Wheel Steer, O'Connor noted, is the world's first system that enables the rear wheels to adjust to angles independently of each other for quick lane changes, improving vehicle stability and control.
"When you're driving in snow, for example, the back wheels act as snow ploughs when braking," he said.
Of course, the RLX is completely keyless, O'Connor added. As long as you have your key in your pocket, you just have to touch the door or the trunk to open them.
Inside, he pointed out the new-look dash. "Acura has eliminated most of the buttons on the dash (except for the button that starts the engine). All the push-button functions have been replaced with a touch-screen."
There's also a brake-hold button between the seats which allows you to take your foot off the brake in slow-moving traffic. In that state, the car moves and brakes by itself.
THE RLX also offers a lane-keeping assist program, blind spot monitor, back-up camera, navigation system, heated leather seats and a 14-speaker Coral Sound System -- all as standard equipment.
Price of the new RLX starts at $53,530 for the base model and tops out at $65,730 for the Elite, including freight and PDI.
O'Connor said Crown Acura has received two RLX models so far.
Murray Chev recognizes employees
Murray Chevrolet sales reps Craig Pucely, John Puchniak and Mike Richardson have once again set the General Motors Sales Marketing Guild (SMG) Gold Standard -- not only for the dealership's sales staff, but for the entire Murray Auto Group of 26 franchises across the country.
Puchniak and Richardson finished second and third respectively in total sales among the Murray Group's more than 100 sales reps, with Pucely in sixth place and Al Luff from nearby Murray Hyundai in 10th place.
The three Murray Chevrolet reps were recognized at the dealership's annual Employee Appreciation and GM Awards Lunch on June 13 at the Manitoba Auto Mall on Waverley near Bishop Grandin.
At the SMG Silver level were Jamie Erb, Teddy Edwards and Keith Place, with senior Murray Chev sales rep Craig Kirkland qualifying for Bronze. Timm Slaney once again earned a Gold placing in GM's Fleet Managers Club.
As for Murray Chev's service employees, Murray Chev President Dan Murray said he was proud to announce that Gold medallists Rennie Verscheure and Kelly Scott were ranked as the top two GM service consultants in Canada last year. Peter Butternowsky and Rob Watson made the Silver level in the GM Service Consultants Guild, while Chris Rostek, Ryan Smith and Dennis Mitchell qualified at the Bronze level.
Earning Grand Master ranking in GM's Technician's Guild were Jeff O'Keefe (at the Silver level) and Jeremy Delisle, Jarrett Hardman Craig Hominick, Greg Kilmnik, David Morrice, John Peters, Dennis Pohl, Ken Stevenson, Les Shimizu and Bryan Verhoski at the Bronze level. Dan Warman and Wilf Neufeld qualified for the Master Technician category.
Murray Chev Service Manager Kathy MacConnell said earning a ranking in the Guilds requires a lot of training and testing. "Seven of our service advisers ranked among the top 10 in Canada," she added.
Also receiving recognition from GM were Corinne Campbell (Gold ranking) in the Dealer Accountants Guild and Fred Swift (Silver) in the Professional Parts Managers Guild.
Prior to presenting the awards, Murray spoke of his pride that Murray Auto Group has been designated one of Canada's 50 best-managed companies for the sixth year in a row.
"No other retail auto dealer in Canada made the list," he said. "The credit for this accomplishment goes to you, our employees."
