Kia goes upscale with new Cadenza

There's a new model in town in the form of the Kia Cadenza, which arrived in local dealer showrooms on April 22.

"The Cadenza is Kia's first model for the full-sized luxury segment," said AutoTown Kia's new car sales manager, Ian McIntyre. "Kia is moving the brand up-market with a European-style design for the Cadenza and advanced technology."

The new model is powered by a 3.3L all-aluminum V6 engine that puts out 293 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Cadenza comes standard with Amplitude Selective Damper (ASD) shock absorbers, blind spot detection, front and rear parking assist and advanced smart cruise control that monitors the gap between you and the vehicle ahead and applies the brakes automatically if you get too close. It also comes with 18-inch wheels and Xenon headlights for optimum visibility at night.

There are two Cadenza model options. The base model sells for $37,795, while the Premium model starts at $44,995 (both plus freight and pdi).

"Right now, supply is limited," McIntyre said. "We have just one of each model. But more models are on the way."

McIntyre is also excited about the arrival of the 2014 Forte which also landed on April 22.

"It's an all-new redesign," he said. "It's the most luxurious compact car in Canada. And every trim for 2014 has more luxury and more conveniences."

The new Forte has a 2.0L, DOHC in-line 4-cylinder engine under the hood with continuously variable valve timing (CVVT). It comes equipped with a new vehicle stability management system, adjustable electric power steering and six air bags standard on all trims. The base model sells for $15,995 (plus freight and pdi).

"The response to the new Forte has been very positive," McIntyre said. "We have ahd quite a few people waiting for it to arrive. The 2014 Forte is very impressive in its styling, performance and comfort. It outperforms the competition."

McIntyre noted that the new-look Forte and the new Cadenza are two pieces in Kia's thoroughgoing revamping of its product line over the past 18 months. It started with the redesign of the introduction of the new-style Sportage at the end of 2012. The new Sorento arrived in March and a new Rondo is due out soon.

"It's an exciting time to be a Kia dealer," McIntyre said.

Kevin Ryan agrees. That's why the veteran of 22 years in auto sales and management left a domestic dealership to become sales manager at AutoTown Kia. His first day on the job was April 22.

"I had been on the sales floor for the past year, but am back in management now," Ryan said. "Warren O'Connell (Autotown's general sales manager) called me and offered me this position. Our paths have crossed several times in the past.

"Kia is an up and coming brand and this store has a large used inventory. It's a good store to work for."
