Two of Nissan's top-selling models have a new look for 2013. The all-new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder found its way into Crown Nissan's showroom at the beginning of December, followed a couple of weeks later by the completely redesigned 2013 Sentra.
The 2013 Pathfinder, notes Brent Sayles, Crown Nissan's general manager, is available with FWD or with the advanced All-Mode 4x4-i system. The 2013 model has a 3.5-litre, V6 VQ engine that has an output of 260 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque, and a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. With the FWD configuration, estimated fuel consumption is 27 mpg in city driving (10.5L per 100km) and 37 mpg on the highway (7.8L per 100km). With the 4WD, the equivalent numbers are 26 mpg (10.8L/100km) and 36 mpg (7.9L/100km).
The new Pathfinder seats seven and, as Sayles points out, it offers easy access to the seats in the third row. "You can have a child seat in the second row and passengers can still easily climb into the third row," he says.
The 2013 Pathfinder is selling for less -- significantly less -- than last year's model. For 2013, the starting price is $29,998 (plus freight and pdi) as compared to $37,998 for the 2012 model. The 4WD model starts at $31,998 (plus freight and pdi).
"With the van segment shrinking, we are anticipating that the Pathfinder will become the vehicle of choice for larger families," Sayles says.
The 2013 Sentra is powered by a 1.8-litre 16-valve DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 130 HP and 128 lb-ft of torque. LED headlights are now standard features while the model boasts 1645L of cargo volume with the rear seats folded down.
"The Sentra has been rebuilt from the ground up," said Sayles. "The styling is very future forward and there are a lot of new amenities."
Sayles notes that, like the Pathfinder, one of the more appealing attributes about the 2013 Sentra is its reduced price. "The Sentra is a price point leader in its category with the price reduction," he says. "It is now the least expensive model in its category."
Whereas the 2012 Sentra started at $15,498, the 2013 model's base price is only $14,848 (plus freight and pdi). The top-end model -- complete with leather interior, sunroof, push button ignition, heated seats, navigation, dual zone climate control, Bluetooth and other options -- sells for just under $23,000 (plus freight and pdi) as compared to just over $25,000 for the 2012 equivalent.
"We are getting a very good response to both the new Sentra and the new Pathfinder. We are expecting to double our sales totals for both vehicles in 2013."
Former Blue Bomber OL joins Crown Nissan Team
Kelly Butler knows the value of team work and the retired Winnipeg Blue Bomber offensive lineman turned auto sales rep is convinced Crown Nissan is the right team for him.
"Crown Nissan has a great sales team," he says. "I love the camaraderie here."
Butler is a graduate of Purdue University and played in the NFL for both the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns (two years each), and in the Arena Football League for a spell before joining the Bombers three years ago. He retired last February.
"I decided to make my home in Winnipeg after retirement because the people I have met here are amazing," he said. "I want to give back to this community."
Although he only began selling cars at the beginning of December, Butler is not entirely new to the business. He says he had family members in the used car business in Grand Rapids, his home town.
"I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Dilawri Auto Group," he says. "I am loving every aspect of this business."
